It was April 1980 and The Clash were in America.
Although it's sketches could run the gambit from exceptional to the true depths of comedy hell, Fridays had managed to build itself a decent reputation for embracing the Punk and New Wave musical scene for their guests, and now they were going to be making history by bringing what was then certainly one of the best bands in the world to a national television audience.

It was a blazing performance by the band, and for my generation almost as important as the Beatles had been on their first American appearance 14 years before, at least so far as to introduce America full on to a new British Invasion.
