Charles Napier (April 12, 1936 – October 5, 2011)

Charles Napier in Steel

One of my very favorite character actors, long time tough guy, Charles Napier passed away earlier this week of undisclosed causes at the age of 75.

Napier was known for his tough guy roles, but is probably best known to Star Trek fans for his memorable appearance as a space hippie in the The Way to Eden.

Like, wow

Modern audiences are likely to remember him voicing the character of General Lane in the Superman and JLA cartoons.

General Lane, Lois's dad

There were just so many good parts with Napier, often as a military of CIA type, often the heavy, but he was also capable of making fun of himself and had some memorable roles in comedies like the Blues Brothers.

But of course my favorite film by Napier and the one Studd fans should recall the with fondness was of course the classic Russ Meyer 1975, sexploitation film, Supervixiens...

Gruff, mean and everyone's Father in Law from hell Napier was always fun to see on the screen and always left his mark.

He'll be missed
